Standing Rigging
Rigging Installations
Sailboat standing rigging has a lifespan. Due to that harsh marine environment it is recommended a vessel’s standing rigging be replaced every 7-10 years to maintain safety.
Mast-Up vs Mast-Down
There are two ways to replace standing rigging: Mast-UP or Mast-DOWN.
A Mast-UP replacement involves climbing the mast to disassemble, measure, and replace each wire. This process is repeated until each wire is replaced. In most cases a Mast-DOWN installation will be conducted.
In the event a Mast-UP operation cannot be conducted the vessel will need to be transported to a boat yard to have the mast un-stepped. A re-rig will be conducted with the mast laying down.
DISCLAIMER: Rig Works LLC does not own any form of crane, boom truck, or lifting device to un-step and step a mast, however, we’re able to work with boat yards and/or other marine contractors that have the necessary lifting devices to complete a Mast-DOWN installation.
Rigging Maintenance
Tune-Up
A rig tune-up is crucial to the performance and safety of the vessel. A properly tuned rig can increase sailing performance while eliminated slack in the cables and flex in the mast. Overall this creates a more safe, yet faster sailing vessel.
Professional tension gauges are used to set cable tension to the recommended manufacture spec.

Running Rigging
Line Replacements
Running rigging is like the steering wheel to your car. Lines fade and deteriorate over time and need to be replaced to prevent snapping under load, damage, and ensure safe sailing conditions.
Replacement lines will be installed using a variety of methods depending on install variables.

Rigging Inspections
Rigging Inspections
Rigging inspections are integral to general maintenance and should be conducted annually.
These inspections ensure the rig’s safety and capacity to support its own weight and the pressure exerted by the sails. During a mast inspection, Rig Works LLC will examine every component of the standing rigging, encompassing the mast, fittings, cables, clevis pins, turnbuckles, and chainplates. Going aloft is essential for inspecting overhead hardware.
